About the Role

As our Email Designer, you will design high-performing email campaigns and lifecycle experiences, combining strong visual design with a deep understanding of how email actually behaves in the inbox.

This is a hands-on role for an experienced e-commerce designer who understands mobile responsiveness, dark mode, and rendering across major email clients. You’ll partner with Retention, Lifecycle, Copywriting, and Creative teams to turn briefs into compelling email experiences while building reusable templates and design systems that enable consistent, high-quality execution at scale.

What you’ll achieve

  • Design high-performing email campaigns and lifecycle flows, including welcome, browse and cart abandonment, post-purchase, winback, and other retention-focused customer journeys.
  • Create mobile-first, responsive email experiences with clear visual hierarchy, strong above-the-fold communication, scannable content, and effective calls to action.
  • Design specifically for the technical realities of email, ensuring layouts render reliably across Gmail, Apple Mail, Outlook, Yahoo, and other major email clients.
  • Own thoughtful dark-mode execution, anticipating how colors, imagery, typography, and other design elements behave across different inbox environments.
  • Build and evolve modular, reusable email templates and component systems that enable faster production while maintaining strong design standards and consistency.
  • Balance live text, imagery, file size, accessibility, and fallback behavior to create experiences that remain effective when images are blocked or inbox behavior changes.
  • Develop and maintain email design guidelines and systems, establishing clear standards for typography, spacing, components, imagery, and visual hierarchy.
  • Apply strong design standards across multiple brands, maintaining consistency while preserving the individual visual identity and voice of each one.
  • Use AI tools as part of the creative workflow for image generation, concept exploration, background extension, product visualization, and production acceleration while ensuring outputs remain realistic, polished, and on-brand.
  • Partner closely with Retention, Lifecycle, Copywriting, and Creative teams, translating briefs and strategy into finished email experiences and iterating quickly based on feedback and performance learnings.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve design quality, production speed, reusable systems, and workflows, helping the team produce stronger creative more efficiently.

What you’ll need to be successful

  • Strong professional experience in email design, with hands-on experience designing both campaigns and automated lifecycle flows.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality email design work across campaigns, flows, and different creative formats.
  • Strong experience working within e-commerce, ideally DTC e-commerce, and an understanding of how email supports retention, customer lifecycle, and commercial performance.
  • Deep understanding of email-specific design constraints, including responsive and mobile-first behavior, dark mode, email-client rendering differences, image behavior, live text, and fallbacks.
  • Hands-on experience working within an ESP, with Klaviyo strongly preferred.
  • Experience creating and maintaining modular email design systems, reusable components, and templates that support consistent execution at scale.
  • Strong understanding of visual hierarchy, typography, layout, and conversion-focused design, with the ability to balance brand quality with performance.
  • Strong proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, with the ability to move efficiently from concept through production-ready assets.
  • Experience using AI creative tools such as Midjourney, DALL·E, Photoshop AI features, or similar tools to accelerate production and expand creative possibilities while maintaining strong design judgment.
  • Ability to work quickly across multiple brands and priorities without sacrificing attention to detail, consistency, or quality.
  • A highly autonomous and collaborative approach. You can take a brief, understand the objective, make strong design decisions, incorporate feedback quickly, and move work forward without requiring detailed direction.
  • Experience with HTML and CSS for email, SMS/MMS design, animated GIFs or motion, and an understanding of how design decisions can affect deliverability are strong pluses.
